In our Publications class we were asked to create mastheads that would embody what our online magazine was about. I decided to present the following three ideas onto the board.
I’m quite happy, because the 1st and 3rd designs have been chosen in which I’m told to edit further and to place them into a given context! =) yay! I’ll be sure to post the new, edited designs soon enough.
Our brief indicated that we had to use a current design magazine as a reference, in which we were to create our very own issue. Everything within the magazine had to be written or taken by us. This assignment gauged how well we were able to appropriate a style and make it our own.
I was very proud of this assignment considering I got a Distinction. 80%. Love doing magazine layouts… =]
For my Proffesional Practice class we were asked to create our own logo for our personal design studio. As a logo, they had to work in various sizes, be easily identified and also work in colour and in black/white. Below are a number of designs that I have choosen.
My favourite is the third one.
What it’s about?
So one of our tasks for UNI this week is to create a number of logos for our own design company. I decided to research, to look around and see what kinds of logos out there are deemed “great” designs. I came across a wonderful site, Logo Design Love. I wished to create a similar discussion point in regards to the re-creation of the ‘Animal Planet’ Logo, and wish to share my thoughts.
Before
The old logo was straight forward, ‘Animal’-> picture of elephant, ‘Planet’ -> picture of the world. It was clear, neat, highly respected and recognised. So why the change?
Experiments are fun.
I guess I’ll do another one soon, without the use of any brushes and just create my own images and such using Illustrator… =[ Time consuming, but I guess it’ll pay off.
First attempt at ever making these silhouette/cliched floating island pics… Downloaded quite a number of brushes from DeviantArt. =] I think it turned out okay for a first try? Used Photoshop, though I think if I were to use illustrator, it would have been easier to move things around etc.
Logo/poster we had to create for our student magazine called ‘Customise’. Our piece had to work in a poster size format, which was why I choose the bold white on black concept. It makes the whole poster stand out, as your eyes are attracted to the piece. The font is individually different, yet unified enough to show that they are one.
